Quick answer: a thank-you page reorder offer is an app block on Shopify’s Thank you or Order status page that asks the buyer to purchase the same consumable again later — a reorder button, a refill date, or subscribe-and-save. It starts a new order. It is not the one-click post-purchase page, which adds a product to the order they just paid for. This guide sets up both without mixing them up.
Use the post-purchase page to add something to this shipment (one click, same card). Use Thank you and Order status blocks to sell the next order: a depletion date, a reorder button, subscribe-and-save that starts when they run out. They are different surfaces with different powers. Wallet and BNPL buyers skip the one-click page but still land on Thank you — which is why reorder copy belongs there.
Shopify gives you two different machines that people keep calling “the thank you page upsell.”
Machine A — same-order one-click. After payment, before the Order status page, Shopify can show a dedicated post-purchase page. Your upsell app proposes a change, the buyer taps once, and the extra product lands on this order, billed to the same card. Dev walkthrough: build a post-purchase offer. Merchant-speak: one-click upsell after checkout.
Machine B — future reorder. The product they bought will run out. You want the next bag, bottle, or tin — a new checkout, or a selling plan that starts on a date. That lives on Thank you, Order status, account, and email, as app blocks in the checkout editor. It cannot edit the paid order.
This article is for consumable brands: food, coffee, pet food, vitamins, razor blades, filters. If you treat machine B like machine A, you either surprise-subscribe someone today or you wonder why the thank-you widget did not change the invoice.
| One-click post-purchase | Thank you / reorder offer | |
|---|---|---|
| When it shows | After payment, before the Order status page | On Thank you, and later on Order status |
| What a “yes” does | Adds a line to this order, charged now | Starts a future order or a plan from a date |
| Card entry | Saved card, one tap | Usually a new checkout or Shop Pay link |
| Wallets / BNPL / COD | Skipped | Still shows |
| Order already has a subscription | Page skipped entirely | Still works: loyalty, next-date copy, manage-plan link |
| Where you set it up | Settings → Checkout → Post-purchase page (one app only) | Settings → Checkout → Configurations → Edit → app blocks |
| Best for | Second bag in this box, filters with the machine | Day-28 refill, subscribe-and-save, “buy again” from tracking |
Editor clicks: customize the thank you page. What else fits on that page: thank you page upsells. Note the deadline: non-Plus stores must be off the legacy pages and on Checkout Extensibility by 26 August 2026 — four days from this update.
A coffee brand put “Subscribe and save 15%” on the post-purchase page after a one-time 250 g bag. Some buyers thought they were adding a second bag to this shipment at 15% off. They were not. They were starting a selling plan. Support spent a week cancelling subscriptions people did not know they had started.
The fix was boring and correct. One-click offered a second 250 g of the same roast in this box. Thank you said: “This bag lasts most people about 3 weeks. We’ll email on day 18. Or start a 4-week plan that ships after this one — not today.” Order status, when they came back for tracking, had a reorder button for the same SKU.
Same catalog. Two timestamps. Fewer angry emails.
A reorder offer without a date is a slogan. Compute a date from the SKU:
Email or SMS should fire a few days before that date, with the same SKU and a checkout link. The thank-you block only has to plant the flag and, if they want it, start a plan for after depletion — not stack a second charge they did not understand.
Selling plans are right for coffee, food, and vitamins. They are wrong as a surprise on a one-click card the buyer read as “one more bag in this box.”
Good thank-you copy:
If the order already contains a subscription, Shopify skips the one-click page entirely — that rule is in the product-offers limitations. Do not debug your upsell app for a week. Put a “manage subscription” link and loyalty on Thank you for those buyers instead. The full subscription ruleset: post-purchase subscription upsells.
Loyalty: stamps or points for the reorder, not a maze before they can repurchase. And if they are still a guest, plant the account first — thank-you page account creation is the door; reorder is what they do once they have a door.
Personalize the date and the SKU, not a random bestseller. Personalizing post-purchase offers still applies — here the “upsell” is the same product on a calendar.
A metafield or tag such as supply_days:28. If you cannot estimate it, do not automate the date — let the buyer pick a reminder interval instead.
Post-purchase page = extras in this box. Thank you and Order status = the calendar and subscribe-from-date. One app can do both only if you configure both surfaces on purpose.
Settings → Checkout → Configurations → Edit, then use the page selector. Thank you: “We’ll remind you around [date].” Order status: a “Buy this again” button. The two pages do not inherit each other’s blocks.
Email or SMS at supply_days minus a few days. Same SKU, one button, straight to checkout.
Confirm the one-click page shows or skips as expected, and the thank-you blocks read sensibly either way. Then refund yourself.
Full disclosure: this is our app. We built it so you are not stacking four tools for the same job. Oxify runs one-click post-purchase offers, thank-you page blocks, a cart drawer, free gifts, BOGO and volume discounts in one place, on Checkout Extensibility.

It is a prompt to buy the same consumable again later — when this bag, bottle, or box will run out — or to start subscribe-and-save on a future delivery. It lives on the Thank you or Order status page as an app block, and in email. It is not Shopify’s one-click post-purchase page, which adds a product to the order they just paid.
Install an app with a reorder or thank-you block, then go to Settings → Checkout → Configurations → Edit. Pick Thank you (or Order status) in the page selector and add the app block under Sections. There is no code, and it works on every plan that has the new checkout editor.
One-click uses the post-purchase page after payment: the buyer taps once and a line is added to the same order on the same saved card. A reorder offer starts a new order in the future. Mixing them up is how you ask someone to “subscribe” as if it were a $4 add-on today, or expect a thank-you block to edit a paid order — it cannot.
An estimate of when they will empty the product: servings ÷ daily use, or bag weight ÷ feeding rate. Put that date on the thank you page (“You’ll want this again around 3 October”) and in a reminder email a few days before it. Guessing “30 days for everything” trains people to ignore you.
Only if the copy makes the schedule impossible to miss and you understand the limits: Shopify skips the whole post-purchase page when the order already contains a subscription, and by default the first cycle bills now. For most stores, a thank you block that says “get this every 4 weeks starting next month” is clearer than dressing a contract up as a one-tap line item.
Both. Thank you is seen once, right after payment — good for “we’ll remind you around this date.” Order status is where they return for tracking, often more than once and closer to empty — better for a live reorder button. Add the block on each page; they do not copy across automatically.
On Thank you or Order status: “Reorder from your account and earn stamps.” Do not hide the reorder behind a points puzzle. Points are a reason to come back; the depletion date is the reason to come back that week.
No. Reorder blocks are app blocks in Settings → Checkout → Configurations → Edit, on any plan with the new pages. Additional Scripts has been view-only since 28 August 2025, and non-Plus stores must be on the new pages by 26 August 2026. One-click same-order offers use the separate Post-purchase page setting.
Tag days of supply. Put a date on Thank you. Put “Buy again” on Order status. Keep same-box extras on the post-purchase page. Oxify runs all of it in one app.
